Itris Automation Square launches its academic
partnership program

Grenoble, France, January 16th 2012 - Itris Automation Square, provider of innovative solutions for the development of PLC programs, signed with the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (France) for the launch of its academic partnership program.

Institutional and technological partners : Itris Automation Square (IAS) joined several professional networks and partnership programs, both within its sector of activity and its local ecosystem. These partnerships result in collaborative R&D projects, synergism for product development, common market access strategies…

IAS is now extending its network, since the company recently began offering higher education institutions (Universities, Engineering schools...) to join the partnership program. Through these academic partnerships, IAS allows students to become familiar with the use of development tools for innovative PLC programs. Thus, the entry of graduates into the industrial world is made easier, the industrial programming tools of IAS being extensively used by many control engineers.

Within this framework, IAS has signed its first academic partnership with the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA), France, on January 16th. IAS thus provides the URCA 40 rights of use, for PLC Checker to verify the PLC programs developed by students in their tutorials and practical work projects. IAS’ tools will also be integrated in the Cellflex flexible workshop, the training and technology transfer platform of the URCA.

Raising awareness among students about the importance of API code quality

"PLC Checker, our quality metrics product for PLC programs and verification of coding standards, helps students to learn how to structure their programs to make them more readable and maintainable. The educational value of this approach is undeniable, and we are very pleased to be able to participate in the growing competence of future industry players. We also particularly appreciate working with the URCA, and more specifically the “Automatic and Hybrid Systems” group from the Communication Sciences Research Center (CReSTIC, EA3804), whose representatives share the values of dynamism and innovation of our company”, stated Mr Eric Pierrel, C.E.O. of IAS.

Bernard Riera, University Professor at the URCA, and Alexandre Philippot, Docent at the URCA and both CReSTIC Researchers added, "A tool like PLC Checker allows our students to become aware of the importance of API code quality, too often neglected in academic training. IAS’ tools are required to be used consistently by our students as they develop the API code. This partnership with IAS contributes to the development of scientific and technical collaboration between the University and Industry".
